Hey guys,
My suggestions would be to use your own car if you want to travel through several countries. It would be a lot cheaper and less hassle with possible age, license and cross-border restrictions when hiring - but Google is your friend.
I was wild-camping, but ended up sleeping in the car about half the time. Didn't bother with campsites.
Norfolkline - Dover/Dunkirk is very cheap (about £20) in an average sized car if you don't mind odd hours.
Just checked it purely out of curiosity. July/August quoted £26 return for a car inc two people - but at 4 am.
