Hostels on Thailand?

Hi all. Im going to Thailand on the 5th October, starting in Bangkok. Now the only thing is we haven't booked anywhere to stay once we arrive. I just wanted to know, would it be wise to get somewhere sorted once we arrive? Or if anyone knows a good place to stay when we get there could you please let me know the name of a hostel that you might recommend? Thanks in advance, Lee.

Lee,
You can get your own room for what a hostel will charge. There are dozens of low priced hotels/guesthouses in the Khao San Road area of BKK. Here is a that might help. I found this guys helpful. He has several hotel reviewed. Perhaps one might be in your price range and close to the KSR action. & got decent reviews for a cheap places to stay. There are dozens of others close by. rated quite high here on TP.

You will have to decide if you should book something before you get there. I don't, but others feel more reassured if they have a room booked. Your decision.

Thanks vegasmike6. I think i'll just wait till I get to Thailand and look for a place once I arrive. Thanks again, Lee.

I travelled for over 4 months throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Camodia and Laos and the only time we pre arranged accomodation was when we first landed in Malaysia from Australia as we could not be bothered walking around jetlagged tired and hungover. Even when we got off the bus in some cities or towns at 1am there were people waiting for us trying to get us to stay at there guesthouse or hotel, they all want your business so they always have a man there at every bus arrival. If worse comes to worse just jump in a tuk tuk and ask them to take you to places they know (most likely it will be there friends and they will get commish from bringing you there) there was only one time the driver took us to a dump he tried to make us stay there even though we kept saying we wanted to leave but in the end we just didnt let him be pushy and walked out of the place he jumped in his tuk tuk pulled up next to us again and the second time around took us somewhere more decent. We would sometimes haggle between guesthouses as we walked up and down the main stretch of guesthouses checking the rooms and comparing before making our decision if you walk away they always drop there price

oh and I would probably go guesthouses over hostels with dorms, they are nicer and in most cases just as cheap, we were in Bangkok and went to hostels they were going to charge us $13 each to stay in 4-6 bed dorms shared bathrooms instead we walked around and found guesthouses that were alot nicer after we haggled and told them what other guesthouses were offering we got a room for the 3 of us for $7 each which included a tv, fridge, r/cycle heat and cool and our own bathroom and when we checked on the internet it was being advertised as $12. this was the case throughout all of South East Asia. Some of the guesthouses were nicer than the 4 and a half star resort I stayed at the year before all it was missing was room service and a pool but hey thats what the beaches are for.
