Hi there
I'm from South Africa, am 18 years old and have been looking into W.W.O.O.F.E.R.S for a gap year or even longer but just have a few questions so if anyone has done it before could you please share!
I'm particularily looking into doing it in Spain because I'm just really want to go there. Woulld it be very hard doing it there as an english speaking person? Also where would be the best place in Spain to do it?
I also have always wanted to go to Australia. Could anyone tell me that has woofered there before if you can work on ranches. Like with horses and stuff. Anyway would really appreciate some advice!
Hi, I dont know about wwoofing but I have not long ago signed up for workaway which sounds pretty similar doing a few hours work in exchange for accommodation and food. I contacted loads of people and have had loads of replies. already sorted staying with some families in oz. I also looked up help x which does a similar thing as well...hope this helps.

Yea you can definitely wwoof in Oz. Check out www.wwoof.com.au
Not sure about english speaking in spain but I think the whole point other than to learn organic practices, sustainability and permaculture, is to immerse yourself in spanish culture, learn spanish and speak it to native spanish speakers. Get a book and a tape, take an evening class if you can. At the least you can grunt and point. It'll be a laugh!
I did Wwoofing in New Zealand and had a great time!
Wow, thank you for the help, it sounds so cool. I've done some spanish before and am going to stary going to some night classes so hopefully it won't be that foreign! How was it applying for a visa for volunteering?

I have done wwoofing in oz, firstly on a flower farm in the rainforest in Queensland, and second on a berry farm on the edge of the wilderness in Tasmania. It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.
woofers sounded a bit too much like working your guts out on some hippys farm, in return for crapping in a bucket and eating some wild berrys.
I've done and its been a pretty good experience. No different visa from a tourist required. The work is more varied and so are the accommodations, some are just people that enjoy the company of travelers. I haven't done it in Spain, but oddly I was looking at the accommodations in Spain a few days ago, and there are some really nice options there. Seems to be a lot of English ex pats listing their places, so speaking pure Spanish wouldn't be so much an issue.
Wwoofing is pretty much the same as helpx really in that the range of experience varies. We had some really good accommodation in the couple of places we stayed, one in our own (nice) caravan, and one in a bunkroom in the house. There was no crapping in buckets - an unfair comment, I feel, from someone who it sounds like has not participated in the scheme. You can end up having a bad experience finding stuff from helpx too, so don't think that's an easy safe option! Look on both, find something you like the look of and get a second opinion or read a review from someone who's done it. With regard to the original poster, you're more likely to find work on a ranch through the wwoof scheme, I think.

Clearly it's you yourself that doesnt have that much experience with either woofers or helpx. The comment about the bucket was just a light hearted joke, lighten up! But Woofers IS more the hippy/organic and HelpX the more varied. You're just as likely to find work on a ranch on Helpx, if you care to look. The difference is you'll have a steak for dinner at night instead of the Woofers dinner of lettuce and a carrot.

I had steak! Some hippies eat their cows, y'know - the berry farmer had his own herd. There are definitely more ranches on Wwoof than on Helpx btw.
