im going to oz in jan and asia on the way at end of nov till jan so we decided to buy sleeping liners as we dont know how clean some places are going to be and also in some places you have to pay to hire linen. we got really small cheap ones for only £15 which are anti-bacterial, anti-mosquito and act as a barrier against bed bugs. I've read online that sleeping bags should not be taken and sleeping liners are a much better option but guess it depends on where you're planning on staying really.

Thank you so much for posting this! I came across these the other day and thought it might be a better space saver than a sleeping bag. I'll be going to NZ but as Australia is quite a lot hotter, maybe you wouldn't want a sleeping bag anyway? So the liner might be ideal.
I've found some silk ones like you mentioned for £35ish but some pretty basic ones for £10. I'm just wondering now which one might be a better choice?

Hi, i took a sleeping bag liner on my 12 month trip and used it once, and that was to sleep in an airport, its a waste of space i think if your not going to be camping anyway

I honestly wouldnt take one. I took one when I travelled for a year and didnt even use it! The hostels are really clean in my experience in Australia (except coffee palace in Melbourne! Avoid that one! It was rancid!) and you can always check the rooms/ beds before you decide to stay.

thanks for all your replies, in the end i brought a cotton one as it was far cheaper! thought it might be better safe than sorry but do appreciate all your advice. One week left and i will be on my way - argh!!
