Well, i have finally decided..we are going on our week vacasion to Germany. We will miss Oktoberest as we are going form the 8th-16th! My boyfriend and I are flyig into Hamburg and deciding on whether or not to drive --we were thinking berlin, copenhagen, Munich are all options. I wondered if anybody had advice on the best places to go for the week and easiest places to drive to.
With only a week I would try to cover 2-3 cities, no more. Berlin alone deserves several days.
If you stay mainly in the big cities forget about renting a car. You'll be better off using the train and public transport, especially if you can get the special offer discounted train tickets.
Definitely try to see Hamburg (2 days) and Berlin (3 days). In between the two cities look at Lüneburg, Wismar, Bad Doberan and the historical steam train there http://www.molli-bahn.de/ and Rostock/Warnemünde.
Alternatively you could also visit the WaddenSea and the North Sea islands. For example it is possible to walk from Sahlenburg near Hamburg to the island Neuwerk during low tide in the morning and return by ship in the afternoon. More infos on that:
