Partying in Central America?

Hey everyone- I'm headed to Central America (flying into Mexico City and flying out of Panama City) for 6 weeks this autumn, and I don't really have an itinerary yet, so maybe you can help me out! In addition to doing some work on organic farms, seeing some cultural and historical sights, etc., I'm hoping to do some major partying. Where are the best spots with good clubs, good beach dance parties, cheap beer, and a lively 24-hour atmosphere? If you've done the party scene in SE Asia, you know what I'm talking about- laid back beaches that come alive at night and plenty of young (or young at heart) people looking to dance and feel alive! Where are the best spots to find this sort of thing?

San Pedro, Belize
Antigua, Guatemala
Utila, Honduras
San Juan Del Sur, Honduras
Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, Jaco, Costa Rica, Quepos, Costa Rica.
Bocas Del Toro, Panama.

Every place there has a beach except for Antigua. Guatemala is not very beach oriented, in my experience, though they have some waterfront on both coasts.

You forgot El Salvador! 330 km. 220 miles of pristine Pacific Beaches! El Tunco, Sunzal, El Zonte and La Libertad Port all great party beaches. Getting very popular. El Sal now on LPs list of top ten countries to visit in 2010. Google.
Sending emilyemily a private message. Nicaragua beaches also great, Guatemala has Monterrico near teh El Salvadoran border, excursions from Antigua, very touristy.

I specifically left El Salvador for you DBloom....And I just noticed an error I made while not concentrating. San Juan Del Sur is in Nicaragua, not Honduras.

I never found Monterrico to be that developed as a tourist place for partying.

Nice to hear from you Piecar!

emilyemily and others get a good up to date country and regional specific guide books in print and read them well before your arrival to Central America, also research on internet for example Google "Beaches and Surfing in El Salvador" "Party Places in Central America" etc. etc. get tons of results.

Do some homework, be aware, be safe, use common sense and have a great trip..buen viaje. saludos.

That's a lot of ground to cover in 6 wks! You will have to do a few long bus trips, or flights might be a good idea.
Two party places I would recommend: Caye Caulker, Belize. They don't actually have beaches persay but its a great little island and you can hire a sail boat for a day of snorkelling on the reef. Think lounging around on the deck in the sun listening to reggae music and drinking rum punch ... one of the best days of my life.
Another island - Roatan in Honduras. It's a lot bigger than Caye Caulker, more touristy. Beautiful beaches, great restaurants, seafood, good nightlife.
Enjoy!

tranquillo bar utila hondura special!!!!!!

Thanks for all the good advice! I hadn't actually planned on going in El Salvador (and only because another traveller I met said it wasn't particularly safe for women travelling alone) but I might have to look into it a little more now. I don't have a set itinerary yet (and I probably won't, considering I always end up scrapping it and coming up with a new itinerary as I go along), but I will most definitely be hitting up these spots. Caye Caulker sounds AMAZING, I just don't know how much time I'll be able to spend in Belize because I hear it's quite expensive? What would you say was an average day's budget in Belize, Jempea?

Belize and Costa Rica most expensive Central American countries to travel in. Caye Caulker (I stayed there 2 months in 1971!) now very touristy, flying out of Belize expensive, but easy by bus first to Flores, Peten (Tikal) then an overnight bus to Guatemala City where you can pick up the Tica Bus (Google) for the rest of Central America, lay over in each country.
El Salvador and Nicaragua the friendliest and most helpful people, people are more important than "destinations", join (Google) the Hospex portals, be hosted or meetup with locals, in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, CR and Panama many Couch Surfing, Hospitality Club and Be Welcome members, most are locals, a few ex pats and long term volunteers, try and stay with women, a few guys on "CS" are hustlers who seek lone women travelers to host.
Remember in bars alone, never become so intoxicated you become vulnerable. Illegal drugs are everywhere, consume and associate with drug users at your own risk, leave your extra cash and original passport locked up when you go out!!!!! Be aware and be safe. 99.9% of those who use common sense encounter no problems, includes women traveling alone.
Buen viaje.
