Melbourne trains

I'm confused about the trains in Melbourne. Im seeing on Google what looks like a train line and station in Mornington, but then on a Vic train website it seems to only list trains as far south as Frankston. I'm trying to figure out the best way to cycle Arthers seat from the nearest train station. help?

I had to look this up. Frankston as far as I was aware is "the end of the line". But it turns out there is another service, a diesel train that runs from Frankston to Stony Point. In the past, it looks like there was a fork at Baxter that led to Mornington. That line is disused. You can see on Google maps that there are trees growing on it

Anyway, I guess you could catch the train from Frankston down to Stony Point, perhaps get off at Bittern and ride your bike from there. That train only goes every 2 hours or something though, so plan accordingly. Or get off at Frankston and ride down along the bay. There's a popular cycling route there.

p.s. When do you get here? Say hi when you're in town! Maybe catch up for some beers.

Ah thanks Peter. Actually this was a piece of info I was missing from my trip there last year. I've been asked to write a travel magazine article on biking in Melbourne. When i was there i was staying in Mt martha so was easy to cycle to Arthers Seat, but now Im writing about it i wondered just how difficult it would be to get down that way from the CDB. Makes for a pretty good days ride to have to ride from Franston then up Arthers Seat then ride all the way back again. I wonder if there is a bus from frankston with bike rack? I'm heading to Australia today! but hitting the Gold Coast this time and only be there for 6 weeks staying pretty much just in that area. Next time though!

Lots of people go cycling along the bay for fun. I guess it depends if you are after a cycling trip or just want to get to Arthurs Seat You're right though - it would be quite a full day riding from Frankston. I'm not sure how buses handle bikes. I have a vague recollection of reading about this possibility, but can't say with certainty. I've only been on a bus once in the last 13 years I've been here

Maybe you could also hire a bike for a few hours from somewhere nearby? Admittedly I can't find anything through Google about bike hire on the peninsula. Kind of seems like it should exist though!

One other possibility - walk It's about an hour's walk from Dromana to Arthur's Seat according to Google maps. Not sure if that takes into account the fact that it's all uphill.

There is a (leaves ~every hour, takes 40 mins to get to Dromana).
