Any tips for finding work in Australia??

I'm heading to Australia in March this year and I'm trying to decide whether to enroll in a work abroad program (to get extra help for finding work) or if I should just save that money and do it on my own. Does anyone have any advice for me? After talking with some people on this forum, I'm no longer terrified about the idea of heading to Australia on my own, but I am still nervous about whether or not I'm actually going to be able to find work as I go. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I've been job hunting for about 3-4 weeks and still have no job. So far I've had one interview and didn't even get the job. Some people, it takes longer. If you are able to do office work then you'll probably be fine.
When you arrive, join some agencies, hand out cv's and hope for the best.

Good luck, Lucy.

Hi Lucy

3-4 weeks, that seems like a long time? people make out its easy to find work over there. Is that not the case? What kind of work are you looking for?

Thanks x

Hi!

I am heading to Melbourne around the 13-15th Febraury where I am wanting to look for work for around two months. I was hoping it would be relatively easy to find work but now I'm a bit worried it will be quite hard, and I wish I would of saved up a bit more money :S.

I found some job sites that you have to pay say 17pounds to register but you can start applying for jobs before you arrive in aus, I'm quite tempted to go for that now if I may struggle whilst I'm out there.

Hey guys, im from Perth, Western Australia and must say there is currently an abundence of jobs if you know where to look.

seek.com.au is the best website for jobs in australia. Assuming the majority of you are backpackers id recommend just taking what you can get initially. Hand in resumes at bars and restaurants and move forward from there.

I spent a while working on the east coast in the whitsunday islands and noticed during the interview process they were reluctant to employee anyone until they were in the state. i suggest making your way to your destination and then looking for work

Good Luck

People should check this website out, although I'm not sure about their flexibility with travelling and working. It seems that they just set you up with a job in a rural area. May not be that fun.

To work in bar do you need to do a RSA course to work in a bar in Melbourne?

Angela

Our main websites to find work are www.careerone.com.au and www.seek.com.au

You can also check on Gumtree for job adverts as well.

To do bar work in Aus, you need an RSA. There are different regulations for each state. So may be worth checking what the requirements are. I think some accept RSA from other states but may require you to do a refresher.. double check this tho as i'm not 100% sure.

Good luck in Aus!
