I leave on the 18th too but will land in Brisbane on 24th sept. I also want to travel south towards Sydney, in time for Xmas. Would be good to meet if our paths cross.I'm in the uk, 27yr old female.
I have packed a sleeping bag and a silk liner, for when it's too hot for the bag.
Cairns will be very warm and Sydney will be hotting up, but I do not think it gets too hot down south.

Pretty much all hostels these days provide bedding, as a way to combat infestations of bed bugs. The only thing I usually like to travel with is a sarong, they make a great thing to throw on in hot climates, they are good as something to lay on at the beach, they can be a towel, they make a good top sheet if you need one, and in the case of that suspect looking mattress they can be a bottom sheet too. If you have a stop off on your flight over in SEA, its a great place to pick one up.
Weather in Cairns is prefect right now. Its been consistently around 25 to 28 during the day, and at this time of year the sea water is just warming up enough to be comfortable but no jellyfish yet. You'll have good weather all the way down the coast to at least Brisbane with similar temps.

i have a very similar trip to you i land in cairns on the 26th of sept and staying there for around 10 days before i start to travel south towards sydney for new years . Im a first time traveller so not much help on the bare necessities hoping for some help with that myself . Im going alone too and hoping to meet ppl in hostels . have u got a hostel booked already for when u arrive
