I'm going to be staying at Base hostel when i first arrive but looking for flat share and work asap! good to know that you've found some fun things that aren't too expensive.. i've got to be really strict with myself money wise! really excited but the nerves are really setting in now

heyyy AilieSH
nice to see your as excited and of course as nevous as me about travelling to oz, im looking to travel somewhere between the middle of may to june on a WHV, thinking of starting in melbs or sydney and then after that who knows, im travelling alone and would be good to get to know of some people who are around the same place at the same time as im thinking, was debating to maybe do one of the east coast tours or just get to a hostel and take it from there? im really not sure what to do and where to start lol all i know is im soooo damn nervous base seems to be a popular choice youll have to let us know what its like and if youd recommend it?
cheers
mike

Hey,

I fly out on 10th May to Sydney, staying at Bounce hostel and like yourself looking to flatshare and work ASAP. What kinda work you looking to do?

Stef

Hey... yeh defo feeling really excited although not gonna lie i am absolutely terrified! although i have some good mates that have been great with the pep talks! they remind me what an amazing thing i'm about to do and although its scary.. well if it didnt scare you a little it's probably not worth doing. i've been living abroad on and off for the last 3 years but this is the first time going without having a job or place to live already lined up! it really does help to get to know a few people. I know of people out there already.. dotted around Oz and some in sydney but mostly contacts through contacts if you know what i mean... i was really lucky to meet someone through a friend last week that spent 2 years in Sydney and has been able to pass on really good advice for getting set up.. eg tax file numbers, medicare, bank accounts, phones...

I'm pretty much happy to do all kinds of work, i certainly want to do my 3months agricultural work so i can apply for a 2nd year on the visa. I've been told about a couple of courses i need to do for bar work so will likely look to get them done in the first week.. get the work ball rolling as quick as poss!

i'm hoping that in time i'll get to move on to sydney and then travel up the east coast for sure but thinking if possible to stay in Sydney and work work work for 6 months hopefully building a few extra funds... perhaps i'm being naive... guess will find out once there.. you never know what opportunities may come up i guess! luckily i found a good deal on a flexible return ticket so if the worst happened and i had to return to UK i'm sorted to do so.

Mike.. I will definitely let you know how Base is, i hear good things so hopefully it turns out to be that way!... Stef i didnt come across bounce.. where about's is it??

eeeeeeeeep i just cant wait to get there now and start experiencing life down under!

Axxx

Hey,

Bounce is in Surry Hills, pretty much central really. Have you made any other plans yet?

Stef

Xx

Hi travellers! I'm also travelling alone and I was thinking about going up the east coast from May 2nd for about 10 to 12 days. Not longer since the weather is not fantastic this time of year for a beach vacation. Anyone thinking about doing the same/ would like to join in?
Cheers!
Daniela
