Ambitious plans! Good luck.
Only remark I would have is, that the mixture of your Southern adventures plus Mendoza is kind of a weird combi, as totally falls out of the rest. But then that may make it interesting.
I have been to Chiloé many many times (Castro only) when working and calling in with a cruise ship. I love this lively city and am fascinated by the beautiful hilly scenery when sailing along the coastline of that island. Very pretty.
Its supposed to be raining always, but I have been there about 20 times over 4 years and can only say its less than 50% I had.
The wooden churches the island is famous for are very pretty.
Have a great trip. Ushuaia is one of my favourites. If you can, take a trip out along Lago Escondido, Lago Fagnano (my friend owns the Hosteria Kaiken along the lake, which has a nice bar/cafe). And if you are up for another scenic trip, rent a car and go to Cabo San Pablo and say hi to MS Desdemona, stranded there in 1985. You can still board her! Ship formerly owned by my family. The route through the different estancias, to get there, is wonderful and pittoresque.
1. That's not half ambitious!! 50 hours of buses from Pto Nat to Santiago easy. I know as I did it in stages 2 weeks ago. You aybe need 3 days, no joke.
2. 5 days in the park is perfect. You can organise it all there but leave 1 or 2 days for rest + organising before hand. W Trek is AWESOME. Anything you see here will prob be better than the rest weather allowing. The hostel Amarindia in PN is brilliant.
3. Stop in Pucon (Chile) on the way up. Better than Bariloche. Very similar but less kids graduating etc etc. Lots of outdoor activities that are well run. Volcan Villarica asent for instance.
4. For Mendoza book hostel Lao. Tha's a MUST. Just voted no.2 in Latin America. All 1st class there. Near by is all the wine you can drink + loads more activities such as hydro board, rafting, kayak etc.
Good luck.
Personally I'd look to cut something from your plan and do the good stuff properly.
Let's see:
2 days Ushuaia
1 day to Punta Arenas (yes, it is one day)
5 days PN Torres del Paine
1 day to El Calafate
3 days to El Chalten
1 day to Bariloche
2 days Bariloche
1 day to Mendoza
2 days in Mendoza
1 day to Santiago
Adds up to 19 days in 15 days...yes, too much
And no days counted for Santiago and Punta Arenas itself, so actually you need to skip about a week in total.
I would say a day less in Torres Del Paine, unless you like 5 days of the same in a row.
Skip Bariloche and Mendoza. And you are almost there.

One of your less constructive posts there!!
5 days may be too much for some but 10 may not be enough for others.
Skipping Mendoza would be a crying shame too, especially if you like your wine.
However, a major re think is required. You have to miss something sadly.

Agreed!
Although it was partly ment as a joke as well. In reaction on his joke
Besides that, it is an opinion anyway
Of course I can recommend all those places as well and a lot more in between. There are loads of routes you can take.
But rushing it is not an option always an option and sometimes I read posts/questions and I really have to laugh because basically people don't have the slightest idea of what he or she can do in 15 days on such a vast area
I agree with most of the comments on this post. Pucon a must!! We've recently spent 5 weeks travelling a similar route and had no where near enough time. It would probably take 2 days on a bus from El chalten to Bariloche on the ruta 40 stopping at Los Antigos or Perito Moreno. Good Luck.

Hi guys, thanks for all your help! So, after a lot of organising and arragning, we're currently in the middle of our hectic 15 days...
Day 1 Ushuaia (Beagle Channel)
Day 2 Ushuaia (Tierra Del Fuego National Park)
Day 3 Bus from Ushuaia to Puerto Natales
Day 4 Organising Torres Del Paine
Day 5 Torres Del Paine
Day 6 Torres Del Paine
Day 7 Torres Del Paine (managed to do entire W!)
Day 8 Bus to El Calafete
Day 9 Perito Moreno Glacier, amazing!
Decided to miss out on El Chalten, as we were so wrecked from the Torres, and have heard it's not as good, so...
Day 10 Bus from El Calafete to Puerto Natales, rented bikes
Day 11 Am watching the rugby (cmon Ireland!), and flying to Puerto Montt
Day 12, 13, 14, 15 Will see the lake district from the Chilean side, and have a day and a half for Santiago
This also means skipping Mendoza, but will catch a Chilean bedoga on the way up (am meeting people with a car). Also, my friends are flying to Santiago today and are heading to Mendoza instead.
So, ye of little faith...it can be done! But ideally, of course, more time would be great. Can't have it all our own way, and I have had such a great time
That's a Chilean bodega of course!!
Hi everyone!
We are three girls who just read this thread. We know that it is an old thread but we were wondering, how much money did it cost? and is it easy traveling with a bus AND would you recommend doing it? Please help!!
Thnx!
