Cambodia: Volunteers please to help children - no fees

Our first school opened it's doors near Siem Reap (Angkor Wat)on October 1st and is already providing opportunities to 505 children who otherwise would have no secondary education. This number is expected to rise to well over 1,000 as a new building comes on-line. This is just the first school of many I hope.

Hi Andy,
Apologies in not getting back to you in relation to this, but as I said before I am really interested in what you are doing. Myself & my boyfriend lastnight watched the Killing Fields for the first time which only made us more determined. I have a couple of accounts & computer courses under my belt & am thinking of doing TEFAL, & my boyfriend is an electrician. We arent positive yet of when we would be in Cambodia or for how long but as soon as I have a definite I will let you know, but it will not be before May of next year. Have you many volunteers at the moment?

Clare

Thanks Clare

Including you 4 so far.

When I have a few I shall prepare some detailed notes on what we are doing and circulate to those interested.

Actually the fact that you are not out there until May at the earliest is a good thing. What we really need of course is a deecnt spread of committmenst (timewise) so that we can work a rotating programme of people to help out, each with different skills.

Best Regards

Andy

Feedback:
Now have 6 volunteers with skills ranging from qualified teachers, to interior designers; from computer specialists to "just plain enthusiastic and willing".

You know who you are!

Anyone else?

Andy

Hi,
I couldn't help but reading your tread. I would like to commend your efforts. Cambodia really needs special people to improve its situation. I hope you will reach the amount of volunteers needed for you project. When I was in Sihanoukville I spent some good time with the School opened by a group of 'Salesiani'(an italian religious group based on the teaching of Don Bosco). While I was there they were building an hospitality school to teach the kids everything about tourism. I am not sure when I will back be in Cambodia again but I will make sure I come there for a while to volunteer and in the meantime I will spread the voice.
Good Luck
Andrea

Hi Andy

Me and my boyfriend leave for our six month Asia trip tomorrow. I have been looking for some way in which we could give something back to the cumminities we will be travelling, but like you say, have been put off by the payment of a few grand which we'd need to do so!
We are both part qualified accountants, I have experience in Admin, and he could probably lay a brick or two if needed

We'll be in Cambodia sometime next March/April and would love to pop in your school and give what help we can.

Please let me know if you think this will be useful.

Many Thanks

Becki and Jonathan

Hi Andy,
i would absolutly love to get involved in your project, it sounds incredable what you are are doing. I have the Tefl certificate, though i only qualified last year and have no real experience from using it other than a group of peruvians one day by the beach! I have volunteered in Peru where i worked with children with disabilities, there i helped the teachers with looking after the children. I don't graduate from uni until june 2007, but after that i plan to travel. Would sometime in late 2007 (nov/dec) be ok, or even at the start of 2008, depending by when i can save enough money.

warm regards and best of luck

rach

Hey Andy,

I'll be in Cambodia around May or June. I'm a student who will be traveling around SE Asia for research. I'd be interested in helping out for a bit. I have a variety of skills that we can discuss.

I appreciate what you are doing. You can count me in!

Hi Andy,

Count me in also. I'll be in Cambodia in Jan/Feb (not sure what date however) but would love to volunteer for your project. I'm also a freelance web designer. If you need help setting up a simple website for your project, let me know. I've done websites for other volunteer projects.

Christine
