Is Montmartre dangerous at night?

I didn't go at night, but if you're there during the day I highly suggest going to the Catacombs. The entrance is so nondescript it's hard to find, but go on in and you'll see a totally different side of Paris. It's hauntingly beautiful.

hi there!
i visited Montmartre at day and at night, both and i loved it.
I suggest you go there a while before sunset time and meet sunset there, near Sacré-Cœur basilica, where from all Paris under your feet..
Down streets could b a bit unpleasant in nighttime, but i don’t think it's dangerous.
It’s lots of peep-shows and stuff like this that all awake in the darkness.
Moulin Rouge is amazing about show, not that fascinating from street, but take a look anyway – it’s definitely “must” of Paris. When you’ll go up (better with funicular) you’ll find there pleasant touristy area – street-artists, restaurants, some galleries and souvenir shops. You mustn’t return back to down part of Monmartre, but could take metro at the middle-hill (check up in metro map). Paris is adorrrrable!
Enjoy!

Montmartre is definately not a waste of time during the day! I was in Paris in May/June this year and Montmartre was an area I just kept going back to. I spent whole days walking around there, and I also went out at night in the area a couple of times, and loved it... I never felt unsafe there. Definately worth it.

The area around Place Pigalle is seedy at night, but not all of Monmartre. The usual big city con artists hang out around Monmartre, mainly to take advantage of gullible tourists, but there isn't any major risk to your safety that you won't find elsewhere in Paris. Keep your wits about you as you would in any city you're not familiar with.

N.b. the strip clubs around Pigalle are particularly notorious for scams and rip-offs.

Loved it! any time of night or day. The seedy places are the same as in any city really, train stations, dark back alleys... It's one of those places that there are a lot of people just 'hanging around' at night, I always feel safer in those places than others

Montmartre is not dangerous at night. Let me tell you, there's not many better things to do than sit on the steps of the Sacre-Coeur and watch the sun go down. There's always a big group of people, someone playing guitar, someone selling some beers, it's great.

Down below in Pigalle and can be a bit dodgy but it's generally quite crowded.

I find Paris is not dangerous at night, especially during the season.
When in Paris, I was walking home very late many times and hadn't to have a slightest fear.
It's pretty safe.

No it is not dangerous at night. In fact it is a great place to go to and chill after a day in the city. When the weather is good it is a fantastic view on the city and you can sit on the steps and sing or just watch the city.
Not dangerous at all. I have been there many times at night and it was totally cool.

Montmartre is one of the most laid back areas in the whole of Paris. It's so easy - oh and beautiful too.
