hi, i havent been to palawan yet, but before you do go there, visit the palawan center. this is located in makati ( the cbd) about 15 minutes from the manila airport. look for james simpson. he is british, and he runs the palawan center. he will answer all your questions about palawan, sandflies, bookings and he can arrange reasonable resorts for you, as well as airfares. tell him that ramesh gave you his name, and we can probably meet for beers at the palawan center. hope this will help you.

Hi,
I've been to all these places you are heading for except Cacnipa island. I never had problems with sandflies when I've been there (February+March). I've never heard that there are sandflies in Coron...
In some guidebooks I read about sandflies in Palawan....but as already said...I didn't notice a single one in Sabang, Port Barton, El Nido and the Bacuit Archipel.
Sure, booking a flight from Coron to Manila is not a problem. You can make the booking in Manila or Puerto Princesa or even in Coron itself. Maybe it's cheaper if you book in advance, sometimes there's a promo rate which means the flight is 30% cheaper than usual.
Palawan is great...enjoy your trip!
Hi India,
Not sure if you're already off to Palawan, but I've been to some of the places you mentioned and didn't have any bug problems. Just to be sure just lather yourself with insect repellent and you'll be fine.
Regarding booking flights. There are only two carriers (Asian Spirit and Air Philippines) that fly from Coron to Manila, so you might want to book in advance. Although, not many people travel from Coron and January is not a peak season maybe it's not that hard.
Hello travellers
We will go to Palawan( Philippines)in Januari 2007 and want to visit Sabang, Port Barton and Cacnipa island, El Nido and Coron.
Now we have heard that at some places ( or most places?) there are sandflies and that the bites of these sandflies can give fairly problems.
Are there travellers who can give us information about this.
Is it true, how big is the problem and are there sandfly-free beaches? Are there people who went by boat from El Nido to Coron? Can you give some information?
And is it easy to book a flight from Coron to Manila, is it
necessary to book this in advance? Also other experiences about palawan are highly welcome.
Thanks
Didn't have a problem with sandflies anywhere in the Philippines.
