I am travelling around america for 2 months next year and we are travelling around by greyhound bus (mainly because we can't afford a car). We can get an unlimited travel ticket on the greyhound bus for 60 days for £320. I think it's good value but we were wondering if it would be cheaper to get travel out there. we are going to be travelling from LA to New York with stops in between.
not exactly cheap! why don't you google greyhound and find out?
It really depends on how many stops in between you are planning to make, but that amount of money would buy a fair number of single trips. Check out the for an idea of how much fares cost between various locations. Do you have an idea of your itinerary, or are you just planning on winging it?
£320 is a great deal of money - is it necessary to buy that in the UK? Considering how uncomfortable travel can be on Greyhound, you should at least be able to get a sample run B4 you hand over the cash. How much is the pass on Amtrak? - I'm sure it's much less, but considering how prices have increased in the States lately, I would not be surprised if it's similar. My neighbor bought an old car for a little more than that ($700.) THE USA IS AN EXPENSIVE PLACE TO LIVE OR TRAVEL
Don't expect a nice experience with Greyhound - it's full of homeless going on vacation, it smells, it's dirty, it's antiquated - at least my experience a few times in California. They do have internet on their buses though.
