Glad to know you want to see Machu Picchu; I think you can have a smooth trip eventhough the stairs, you can have a person to help you while visiting Machu Picchu so besides your guide.
Just be sure you choose the right tour company, there are some of them who are going out of business but still offering tours.
On the other hand, once you have chosen your travel agent tell them to give you hotel names so you can visit web sites and find out about facilities.
Hope you can come to see Machu Picchu!!!
