Bali on my own?

Hi guys, I'm thinking of going to Bali on my own for a week in July and wondering where the best places are to go / stay to meet people? I've never travelled on my own but can't find anyone to go with me so am just going to do it. I'd like to go to the Gili's I think but I'm aware there are no backpackers there so wondering where to stay / what to do to meet people? (I'm 28!)

Hi Emily,
theres alot of nice place to go in Bali and u should have no problem to find budget guesthouse at near Kuta area. Then u can check out to Gili's from Perama tour. they are established agent. a lot of budget lodge in there. definitely worth checking out all of these places!

Lots of backpackers on Gili Meno (one of my favourite islands on the planet).
If you only have a week in Bali, getting to the Gilis could take up 1-2 days of the trip if going through Padangbai, Lembar, Sengiggi and Bangsal.
I think you can still get a speedboat to the Gilis from Benoa but that costs about $70 USD? one way last time I was up there in 2009.
Half my office will be in Bali June/July.
Bastards

Thanks guys. Am thining of two days in Kuta then the rest in the Gilis. I see that there is loads of accomm there but I don't see anything 'backpacker' like - e.g. I don't want to stay in a guesthouse where I don't meet anyone? Can anyone recommend a specific place with young people not couples in it! (Cos a lot of the places I'm seeing seem to be 'coupley' type places!)

Good idea about the speedboat, thanks!

Hi Emily (dont mean to hijack this thread, just the one question)

but, Is bali, a good venture for a solo travelling?

I was looking at doing this also sometime this year, but at the moment dont know if it is comparable to thailand in regard to meeting new peeps and sharing the experiance. Also, anyone when would be a good time in the year (this year) to go at its busiest for meeting new folk.

Thanks

There are NO backpacker hostels on the Gilis (thank the Lord for that).
Gili Air is primarily for couples and families, Trawangan is for partying and diving and Gili Meno is for doing absolutely f**k all save chillin.
Have always stayed on Meno but getting an outrigger over to one of the other islands and back is no drama.
They are very close together.
As far as I can recall, June and July are very busy times for the Gilis so accomodation could be at a premium.
Here are a few sites you might like to check out -

Meno accomodation -

Never stayed at Mallias (always use Kontiki) but beach bungalows look pretty good, hammock on veranda, water about 10 steps away and so close to the CBD that you can have said hello to everyone on the island before the day is done.
Can find singles, couples and groups on the island at any one time.

Speedboat -

THanks for your help guys, think I'll give it a shot
