There are a few beach options around Ha Tien. The delta beaches are not white sand, but the water is quite calm on the Gulf of Thailand. Hon Chong is probably your best bet. A small village along a scenic stretch of coastline. Many off-shore islands are a delight for photographers. Duong Beach is popular with the VN people. Many GHs under $8/nite in Hon Chong. It is on the way to Rach Gia from Ha Tien.
I definitely recommend you Phu Quoc Island, and at the beginning of the beach there were (three years ago ...) still some $10-places!
Spent 5 days on Phu Quoc Island back in December and absolutely LOVED it.
One place I will certainly go back to if ever in Vietnam again.
Great beaches, awesome seafood and very little commercialism compared to Thai or Malaysian islands.
Flew there and back from HCMC but there is a boat from Rach Gia on the south coast.
Not too sure what the weather woulf be like as December weather was gorgeous and that was supposed to be the best time to visit Phu Quoc.
