Help! 1st international trip on my own

I am planning my first international trip to eastern Europe. Not only is this my first trip to Europe, but it is the first time for me to plan the whole thing, too. So I need some ideas/help with what to see/where to go. A friend and I are attending a wedding in Czech Republic on Aug. 21 We plan to spend 8-10 days traveling eastern Europe. We know we would like to go to Poland and Austria, but not sure where else or if this is enough. We want to get as much out of this trip (neither of us have ever been and we might not get another opportunity), but we don't want to spread ourselves too thin. We have thought about possibly flying out of Paris so we might spend the last day of our trip there (a train ticket to Paris doesn't seem too expensive) Any suggestions on an itinerary would be most welcomed.

Starting from Prague and having 8-10 days I would suggest going to the following places:

1) Vienna and Budapest, flying out of Vienna or Budapest
2) Vienna, Salzburg and Munich, flying out of Munich
3) Dresden, Berlin and Heidelberg, flying out of Frankfurt
4) Dresden, Berlin and Amsterdam, flying out of Amsterdam

Paris is a bit too far away from Prague, I cannot think of a good route right now that doesn't involve flying. Prague-Munich-Paris might be possible, but I think that Dresden-Berlin-Amsterdam will be more interesting than that.

Late August is the busiest time of the year for holiday season in Europe. It will be hot, there will be crowds everywhere. accommodation and everything will be at it's most expensive and you should have booked the lot months back.

Travelling is very time consuming, getting to the station or airport early, waiting, the trip itself, and then getting to where you want to go at the other end and orientating yourself in a new place. Don't try and do too much.

You could do a few days in Prague, Krakow, Warsaw, Berlin and then home.

I would spend those 8-10 days in Prague, Wien and Budapest. And leave Paris for the next trips. If you're not on a budget and can rent the car - then you can make the fast Europe tour, but I wouldn't do it being connected with trains and buses.
Otherwise stay for 2-3 days in Prague, then move to Paris for the rest of vacations.
