I went to Thailand last year and did one of those golden triangle tours which took us to the burmese border. I can't remember what the guide told me tho... can I get over this border by land? whats the deal?

You can cross at into Myanmar at Mai Sai but only as a day trip, you are not allowed to leave the town.If you want to travel in Myanmar, which i strongly recommend, you have to fly in. Flights from KL and Bangkok with air asia, bout $ 100 return , also from China and Taiwan. There is now also visa on arrival, so no hassles and time wasted waiting in embassy.
You can cross over to Myanmar from Thailand but it is not recommended mainly because of safety reason. For tourist, it is possible but is hard to do so. Flying in would be better. But I will recommend you to apply for a visa in Thailand first before flying in.
When do you intend to head over?
Cheers both of you, I'm going over to Thailand on the 26th ish of Dec for 3 weeks travel. Perhaps first port of call would be flying over to Myanmar, I'd love to see it.
