Hi travelers, has anyone else motorbike toured through south American countries? How much do motorbikes cost locally? We have 7 months and we hope to cover most of the continent. Our current budget is $50USD per day. Any tips on places to purchase bikes, types of bikes, roads recommended, blogs etc would be greatly appreciated : ) Jane
Hey Jane, I don't have much info to offer yet about South America but I do know a little about bikes. I've been asking around and the KLR650 is a pretty popular recommendation. Apparently it is a good cross over bike, meaning it is capable of highway travel as well as rougher, more off-road type terrain, additionally it is a very durable bike and it rates highly in terms of fixability. Don't really have much else to offer right now, I would be interested in staying in touch with you, perhaps we could share info. As well I have a friend who wants me to go to Vietnam for part of the winter so I am thinking about postponing the motorcycle trip until the spring, the timing might coincide with your trip who knows?
