Sri Lanka

Me and a friend, both males in our late 20's will be flying into Sri Lanka (Colombo) around the begg of March, and will be looking for a place to stay for a night or two, before we head down south towards the islands.

Most people only spend one night in Colombo before heading elsewhere. Just find somewhere cheap and near the centre of town for your night there.

There is a fair bit to see in Sri Lanka, like a train trip to Kandy and then a minibus up north.

If you have motorbikes, I hope you have insurance so if worst comes to worst, you will be flown home for treatment, unlike the British guy on a bike in Thailand who got injured recently and with no insurance was in a £1,000 a night hospital getting treatment. It does not matter how good you are on a bike. If a taxi runs into you, tough luck.

Sure it matters how good I am on a bike.... In the unfortunate event that a taxi veers into my lane, I would hope that my skills and knowledge come into play and I would know what to do... I am not some candy-a$$ know-it-all Jabroney off the street with and urge to ride the road on a two-wheeler in a far off destination for the first time in my life because it sounds ''rad man''.....

Also... What about crossing the street in a far destination? What if a schmuk runs a red light and smashes in to me? Should I have insurance then? Would that be my tough luck?
If the plane I am in decides to fall apart in the sky, would insurance help me out then?

... and I do have insurance, just never had the urge to want to use it quite yet...

in these days, sri lanka is co host of icc world cup 2011, so every one can enjoy cricket in sri lanka tour

At this moment you may already visited to Sri Lanka and gone, but i would like to add this comment for other peoples who may search similar situations in the forum.

Motorcycles or bikes travel is the best way to enjoy the country side, nature and culture in Sri Lanka. Note that you should travel in the left side on the road and good experience on riding. Roads are now more broad than previous years, any way beware of tuk-tuk (3 wheel) drivers and passenger buses. To ride a motorcycle you need to apply for a temporary driving license and 3rd party insurance will be provided by the renting company.

if you want to party with other travelers in the Colombo city, then you should go to a night club or casino which will cost you ++$$$. You can easily find strippers in a local night club (there are many of them). Entrance starts as low as $5 - $15. A beer is around $5 and a 100ml of Vodka is around $18.

When you are in Sri Lanka, you should look for a beach resort, which is the best to enjoy. -snip- There are more places to enjoy in Mount Lavinia than in the Colombo city. Friday and Saturday night, you can find beach parties as well.

If you are a beach lover / party lover then go to Hikkaduwa, where there are lots of travelers and all night beach parties on Fridays and Saturdays. In Hikkaduwa, I recommend Mambos Place for surfing and partying. But accomadation may not the best. Good food and friendly staff.

Night life in Colombo is scattered to say the least. But the up side is Colombo is small and you can club hop if you know a few places to go to. The other option is to start off at one club and then ask the locals where to go from there. Great place to start is at the CH&FC area. Hope this helps and sure hope you like Colombo and return for more! Cheers
