Your favorite spot in Indonesia

Hey everyone, I'm currently planning my south east Asia trip for this summer. I will be spending around 3-4 weeks in Indonesia. Anyone has some sweet spots to recommend, aside from the classics (Bali, Gili, ...).

I thought Lovina was lovely- it's a nice little place to chill out in for a few days and the snorkeling is good. Ubud is also worth a few days. I've heard really good things about the Gili Islands, especially if you are into diving and snorkeling.

Hi,

Depending on weather, thousand island nearby Jakarta is alco nice & sweet.
If you want a bit further away from Jakarta, why don't you try going to Sumatra or Kalimantan islands?

In West Java itself, some more 'sweet' spots I could recommend is Pangandaran with its Green Canyon (it's green when it's not a rainy season ) or much further away to Ujung Genteng (where the beaches are still pretty).

Enjoy Indonesia!

Sorry I misread the post somewhat the first time -trying to do it quickly at work! Yogyakarta is an interesting place to spend a few days and if you can get to Seloliman Nature Reserve it's worth it - it's a wonderful place and my favourite in Java. I agree regarding Pangandaran too.

Hi,
If you are after adventure Sumatra is your island.

West Sumatra - Padang arrival - bus to Bukittinggi - visit Lake Maninjau and Harau Canyon.
If you would like an interesting experience near Padang check out this place - haven't been myself as yet but it is on my list for next year.

and then fly from Padang to Medan and from there visit
1. Bukit Lawang and then an ojek to Tangkahan
2. Lake Toba and Brestagi with a side trip to Ketambe south Aceh to see orangutans in the wild.
3. Fly from Medan to Banda Aceh and then a fast ferry over to Pulau Weh to snorkel and maybe dive too.

Stadium is fun

A bit out of the way... but Komodo Island was a hi-lite to me.

Thanks everyone, I take good note of all this!

I think it would depend on where exactly in Indonesia you land.
Jakarta and I'd probably do Java and some Sumatra (never been to either yet).
If landing in Bali, head east.
Love West Sumba for the traditional culture (Pasola Festival was awesome but that happens Feb) and very few tourists.
Sumbawa was pretty relaxed and very very few tourists.
Hu'u was great for hanging with surfies and watching petite Japanese girls take on waves even hardened Aussies baulked from. One girl got totally creamed on the reef while I was there.
Flew Denpasar to Sumba for Pasola then flew onto Maumere in east Flores.
Wended way back to Bali via Kelimutu volcano lakes, Ende, Bajawa, Labuanbajo, Rinca (dragons), Kanawa island (rough as guts but lotus eating) then flew back to Bali.
You could take ferry from Flores to the eastern tip of Sumbawa and take it slow back through Lombok to Bali.
Flores didn't have very many tourists either and the scenery was great.
Lombok has Tetebatu, Kuta and Senaru (wanna climb Rinjani?).

Enjoy

Anthony
