Hey Jamie,
I wouldnt stick around Cairns as its got one of the highest rates of unemployment. I was there for a month but its so populated with backpackers during the winter period.
If your looking for any work in Hospitality the best place for yous to go is Port Douglas which is an hour north of Cairns. I got a job my first day I arrived there as its the busy season and I ended up staying 2 months.
