Hey all,
hello
just read your thread, thought it sounded pretty cool and a liitle mad!! i would like to go s america 1 day, my plan is to go to oz and work at end of year, just come back from traveling asia and a month in perth!!!
ive heard argentina is nice, dunno bout columbia, heard it was a bit dodgy but who knows, look at cambodia 20 years ago, or watever it was!!
i know this is no help to yer, but liked the idea of it!!
The bus route is long, but it's not particularly exotic or difficult. It's easy to go from Buenos Aires over to Santiago, then up the coast through La Paz, Lima, Quito then Cali and onward into anywhere in Colombia. There's a pile of interesting side trips along the way.
Cheers,
Terry
Hi,
On a side note: what are your flight plans regarding the intercontinental ones?
I guess you had original plans for a return flight to/from Buenos Aires from where you live?
What are the prices if you fly to BA and back from Bogota (not directly I guess?).
I ask this specifically because you mention it's 650 dollar return for the BA-Bogota trip, but most likely it's going to cost you the same (or more, yes airline economics are pretty strange) for a single trip Bogota back to Buenos Aires, unless you book it as part of your intercontinental flights (in which case it might not cost you anything more, again strange isn't it..).
Bus: like Terry said, easy and interesting. You could also do a few other routes, for example first towards the northwest of Argentina, into Bolivia from there. Or southern Brazil, Paraguay and then into Bolivia (that's a bit exotic), or into Brazil and directly into Bolivia by taking the death train to Santa Cruz. The most exotic (if you have time and want another sort of trip): go throught Brazil and then by boat towards Manaus and the border with Peru/Colombia at Leticia and take a (relatively cheap) flight from Leticia to Bogota. Or go north in Brazil, cross into French Guiana and then onwards to Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela and into Colombia, although I am not sure about border crossings to and from Venezuela right now.
Have fun!
Mike
Hey all,
I'm currently planning to go to both Argentina and Colombia on my next overseas trip. The trouble is, they're kind of far apart, and I'm kind of poor. Flights from BA to Bogota appear to be about $650 return - eeeek!
Anyway I'm thinking of heading from BA to Colombia by bus. I'm very aware that this is a ridiculously long stretch of land and that some of you may think that i'm mad. However i'm on a budget, I've got heaps of time, and I don't mind long bus trips.
Has anyone ever done this? How long did it take you? How much did it cost you?
Any advice/suggestions/words of warning appreciated!
