I also visited Ireland a few years ago with a good friend and really had a great time! What I liked about Dublin is that although it is a capital city, it didn´t felt stressful at all.
One famous place to go out at night in Dublin is Temple bar. The area is filled with nice little pub and the atmosphere is really great at night.
Even though it´s on the other cost you could also head to Galway. Galway itself is a really charming city and from there there are many famous places you can visit, like the cliffs of Moher. I travelled from Dublin to Galway by bus and although it took some time landscape along the ride was simply breathtaking.
Thanks guys, I have been to Dublin a couple of times before and I love it and the Temple Bar area!
I've also been to Galway once, but that was on a stag do, so mostly saw the inside of some pubs, I may well have a proper look this time.

If you do venture into the North, Titanic Belfast is a must see at the moment, it has just opened so I havent been yet, but its getting fantastic reviews. Belfast is on a Titanic high at the moment due to the centenary last week.
Also the North Coast ie Giants Causeway, Carrick a rede rope bridge are worth seeing.
I was in Galway a few months ago and it is such a great city, so defo go back there if you have time.
