When I try the search function on my blog very few hits come up, if any at all.
I know where to find the stuff, but for anyone visiting my site this function is of no value.
Can you give a specific example of what you're looking for?
Just about anything.
Take "China" as a search expression. I have 20 posts about/from China, but the search result gives zero. The same with my latest entry (Algarve).
And so on....
I might add that a Google (specific site) search like this dresden site:sandalsand.travellerspoint.com renders two results. That should be correct I believe. Travellerspoint shows no hits at all.
On the other hand a search for say singapore site:sandalsand.travellerspoint.com gives 285 hits. (And TP none) Google's result also counts the country tag in the right column and is therefore exaggerated.

Hmm - even if I search simply for Sandalsand, it only shows up 3 blog entries whereas you obviously have a lot more. I see a similar discrepancy if I search for my own username.
It would appear that the site's search function isn't just a customised Google call. I think we'll have to wait for one of the experts to chip in ...
I'll have to dig into this a bit more. The indexing must have stopped at some point. It should be keeping this up to date automatically, but it's a lot more temperamental than that unfortunately. On the road at the moment, but I'll try to get this sorted when I'm back in Melbourne next week!

Been battling this the past couple of days. Unfortunately my local setup of the search is messed up, so testing isn't working. Hopefully more luck tomorrow
I still need to fix the underlying issue that causes the index to not stay up to date, but I've run a full update of the blog entries index, so it is quite fresh right now.
So it seems. Did a few test searches and they seemed to come out fine. Thank you so much. And good luck with the underlying issues so that future entries will be indexed on my blog and everyone else's blog as welll.
By the way, I noticed that the search function does not handle quotation marks like in "going home" to force a search for that particular expression. Asterisks (*) don't work either.
Perhaps the use of a Google search engine would be preferable?
