Hey Everyone,
In 1984 and 1988, I arrived at Delhi with nothing booked and each time seven weeks touring India. I had a great time thanks to a Lonely Planet guide to India. Well worth the money as it is packed with information and it will soon pay for itself.
I had a 30 day, then 60 day rail pass (bought at New Delhi station) and travelled constantly, sometimes travelling overnight and exploring a town next day. So much to see there.
You might want to check out Khajuraho while in northern India, and Varanasi on the east coast. Jaipur of course, Cochin and many other places.
Possibly even a side trip to Sri Lanka from southern India as it's only a short flight away by plane.
Don't forget your visa.
Great advise Cyberia, im also going to travel India for the first leg of my World Tour so seeking all the advise i can find.
