Hi, my name is George. I'm 26 and I'm planning to spend two weeksin London ...I've never been there before so I'm a bit afraid Can you help me get ready a little bit? Here's what I am wondering about... what car service do you use ( a cheap and reliable one ), what supermarkets do you, local people, go to? what bookstores/book clubs/cafes do you recommend? what are the best shopping centers ? and also, but not at least, what is the weather in London during this month ? Thanks alot in advance for any tips !!!
I wouldn't worry about hiring a car if you are only there for 2 weeks. It is outrageously expensive and unless you want to go outside London (eg to Oxford or Bath, etc) you can get everywhere easily and efficiently on the Tube and the buses. You can buy an Oyster Card to be cheapest, it is a travel card that deducts each journey as you swipe on and off. There is a daily cap too so it kind of gets cheaper the more you travel.
As far as supermarkets go, I like Sainsburys best, and get all excited looking at their product range. There are also other supermarkets called Tescos and Waitrose, in many of the high streets and all of these also have a small city / metro chain as well, which are often near tube stations or high pedestrian traffic areas. Marks and Spencers also has a food hall in most stores.
London has load of High Streets, for strip shopping rather than shopping centres (mainly) and they all have their own character with lots of different shops and places to eat. Depends a bit on where you are staying as to where is best, it is a big city! Walking around London you'll find lots of chains for coffee and eating, and these are often good as you know what to expect! I quite like Pret a Manger for sandwiches for lunch, and Carluccio's, Jamie's Italian or Bills for a nice meal.

Well london in september will mostly be dry and pleasantly warm. A little windy too to make its more pleasant for your trip A s for commuting in London, rental cars is not such a wise idea, that will be hard on your travel budget. London's public transport is quite convenient and efficient, plus if you get the Travel card, oyster card or BritRail pass, that should be well enough to cover most of your travel across london within reasonable budget
It is wise to use Oyster card in traveling to London. You can use that in buses and trains.
If you want to save time and money going to central London to visit places, your first destination should be Buckingham Palace (watch the changing of guards on Sunday), walk to St James Park (plenty of nice views and you can take pictures), then to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben then London Eye. Lastly, go straight to Tower Bridge to see the glow of the bridge at night. Just relax here and take pictures. You should bring tripod for your camera to capture all the colors of tower bridge at night.
