Travelling around Thailand alone august 2013.. anyone else?

Hi People!!

Hey, all the questions I have, but read up on different sites n asked around, I'm getting to Thailand in June and plan to travel by bus, train..still figuring out the way around, Cambodia first or Chang mai.

I want to volunteer and see the sites, chill n enjoy.

I say get a hotel on first night,ESP if arriving late. carry some cash but use credit cards, ask your bank, for non commission card but check how it's charged. Take cash out you may be charged, but check.

I'm still reading about it all and lots to know, but like you am a excited but nervous, ESP as travelling alone, but think that there are lots of people out there in similar boat, would be great to meet up and enjoy the experience together, if out there at same time.

Hope that helps.

Hi,
I am planning to visit Thailand in mid July or august for 15 days, i am travelling alone so looking for few travel buddies to join me, plan is to form a group of 4 to 5 people, it would be fun in a group rather then travelling alone.

My dates are flexible and i have not booked anything yet, I am still in the process of doing some research on what all places to visit so if any one has a plan that would be great.

I have lots of travel experience visiting diversified places in India, i can easily jell-up with different cultures and get adjusted to different food easily.

My plan is not to book any hotels in advance and have a luxurious holiday, Instead I prefer to explore each place, get the best bargains, try local food, Travel by bus or train and get first hand experience of true Thailand and learn about local people and culture and would also love to try some adventure if possible

So if any one looking for adventure filled roller-coaster kind of travel experience then drop me a mail.

I have worked out the budget for 15 days and it would be roughly around

10000 TBH to 12000 TBH or

$ 350 USD to $ 400 USD

I am waiting for few like minded people to join me before i finalize the dates.

Hi Asif

Be good to join you..I'm flying to bkk 3june...looking to do same stuff..please contact me.

Hi Hina,

Good to know you too going to bkk, is your date 3 june final, have you already made the bookings, or you are still flexible with the dates, because my plan is in july.

have you already formed a group and worked out entire travel plan. let me know what you plan.

I am waiting for few people to come together and decide on common dates and we all fly on those dates and join the group.

I am also looking forward to setup a chat room where we all how have finalized can come in at common time have a group discussion and make a proper plan and know each other and clear each others doubts.

Hi

I'm in Asia at the moment...been here 2 & 1/2 months now. My advice for getting around is buses & trains. Buses are cheaper but trains are more comfortable, especially the night trains. Book 2nd class & you get a bed & will find similar travellers. i suggest you get one that gets to your stop in day light. Trying to find it in the dark is not fun!!

Chiang Mai is amazing...do elephant training & a Thai cooking course here!

Cambodia..siem reap was my favourite place on the whole trip! A temple pass for the day is $20 & is def worth the money! I paid for a tour guide at Angkor Wat but not for any of the others, it was worth the money as you learn a lot you'd never have known from just walking around! Get there early as it gets busier in the avo.

Hanoi...def do a Ha Long Bay tour on a junk boat. 1 night 2 day tour is plenty to see everything there & is def worth the money!

To give you an idea...I've spent less than £2500 on 2 & 1/2 months here so I think you will have loads for 1 month if that's your budget! Plus I have stayed in hotels everywhere & paid for extra flights in between Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam. You can do it so cheap here....food is cheap as..I've just had lunch & it cost me the equivalent of 75p! Just stick to street food & Thai restaurants & you will spend nothing on eating!

Koh Tao is best for diving...tiger temple near Bangkok or tiger kingdom in Chiang Mai are best for tigers.

I strongly suggest you book your first couple nights otherwise you'll be tired & may get ripped off in Bangkok. Taxi drivers are paid commission to take ppl to hotels & it's not always how they sell it to you!

Money... Take a bit in cash & then I've just taken it out over here. There's ATMs everywhere!

Ask people!!! ...I ask everywhere! Especially at train stations etc if you're unsure of how to book a ticket.. I went to customer info at Bangkok station & the woman booked my whole journey to Samui...train bus & ferry all there! It's so easy! Also don't be scared to use travel agents... They are brilliant & you pay small commission but for a couple quid it saves so much hassle doing it yourself!

Hope this helps! X

Hiii Charstar!!

this has helped sooo much!! and has give me more confidence in my trip as you are already out there!!
that sounds amazing... im more and more exicted when i get more feedback and advise!

traveling on overnight trains and buses is a totally new experience!! I think i would prefare the more comfortable train too! how isit? do yuo get breaks on them or do you just travel for 2 days none stop??

chiang mai sounds amazing and hanoi and cambodia!! all places i want to travel while im there!

where are the best beaches just to chill out? and soak up the sun for a few days?

i know i was thinking i might not be able to save £2500 by august so im thinking to less my budget to £1800-£2000ish hopefully that will be enough for one month??

have you met lots of people? did you travel alone initially?

how did you pack? did you pack loads or pack light? is it lots of effort having to pull your suitcase everywhere?

did you stay in hostels or hotels?

where else would you reccomend in se asia?

thank you so much for the advise xxx
