hey welcome to Travellers point, you will definitely get so many friends and discussion platforms obviously.
Thank you, Lizaresmith! I am looking forward to it!
Hi I am travelling to Sri Lanka soon.
Hi Andy! I'm Scott. I'm also Canadian-- and a permanent resident of China. I live and work in Dalian, in Liaoning (northeast China). Dalian is where Chinese go to escape the heat in the summer, with its cool sea breezes. You should come visit.
Welcome to Travellerspoint.

Hi Scott! Thanks for your message. How long have you been living in China? Since you are a permanent resident here, I guess you must have been here for a long time.
Where in Canada are you from? My girlfriend is from Dalian as well.
I will definitely visit the city if I have the chance. And I will contact you if I go!
All the best
Andy

Hi Sean! China is a great country. You should definitely visit.
Well, depends on where you are from, you will experience a number of culture shocks.
First of all, there is A LOT of construction going on in Nanjing. The city is preparing for the opening ceremony of the Yough Olympic Games next year. So the traffic is pretty bad.
Lots of people here ride bicycles or motorcycles. They are a major means of transportation.
Pedestrians don't really have right of way here. So you need to be cautious when you cross the road.
My overall experience in Nanjing so far has been overwhelmingly positive! People are very friendly. Every time I am lost and ask for direction, they are happy to help. Nanjing used to be the captial city of six different dynasties in ancient China. So there are a lot of attractions to visit - palaces, royal tombs, museums, natural lakes, etc.
The only thing I do not enjoy so much is the heat. Nanjing is one of the four "furnaces" of China. It can get very hot in July and August. So bring sun screen if necessary.
In short, Nanjing is great! If you do come, please let me know! I can be a guide and show you around.
All the best!
I'm from a small town north of Toronto, called Huntsville. But I've lived in Toronto, Waterloo, Calgary, Victoria and lots of other places in Canada. My wife and I visited Nanjing a few months ago, during the Spring Festival. It is a very pleasant city. I like the park and pond right outside the train station. Usually the area around a train station is ugly and industrial, but the area around Nanjing Train Station is very welcoming.
