Sleep in KL airport? If you have time, and do not have to get a very early flight, do consider a nearby hotel. If you arrive earlier, that will give you time to spend in Malaysia. There is a general accommodation link at the top of the page.

If you want another place to visit, you could try Hong Kong or Singapore. Or Laos if you want more "third world". I would say Japan, but that too deserves a long visit.
You are going in High Season, so do book some accommodation before arrival as places do fill up that time of year.
Bangkok and Bali, do watch out for pick pockets.
I have been to Japan three times now, and I'm planning on going again, but not this time. I'm looking for cheaper places.
AirAsia have a Tune budget hotel about ten minutes walk from the LCC terminal, dirt cheap and basic but vastly better than sleeping in that terminal.
If AA still do the KLIA-Taipei route, I'd recommend a few days there.
Why do you recommend Taiwan?
Taiwan is a lot different to the other destinations on your trip, and I think it's interesting and stimulating - as well as its own culture and sights you have the whole China schism thing.
You said cheap, it's much cheaper than Japan but maybe not in the same league as your other destinations so maybe not for you, though a short stay doesn't add up to much.
Taipei as a base lets you see the best of the country.

Thailand, Laos and Cambodia will be cheaper than Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong. Japanese and Koreans visit Thailand for cheaper holidays.
Do some research on visa requirements.
