Crossroads

Hi everyone,

Whoa - sounds like you've been doing some thinking about things.

Ar you coming to Oz before you leave this part of the world? You do owe me a drink remember

Hi James,

I'll be in Sydney for a week actually, so I'm sure we can squeeze in that drink.

Great.

It sounds like you've had an amazing 18 months or so. It's a great time but as you say, also a bit difficult as you have to "re-start" your life when it's all over.

So what scenarios are they theat you want in equal measure; travel and study?

i would say: get your feet back on the ground and do the first thing that comes in mind

Can you move to Little India in London...?

Sincerely, it's a tough choice. If you had your plans all settled and something's nagging at you, though, it's something to stop and consider.

And, on a slighty related note, I now have Crossroads stuck in my head. "You can run, you can run..."

I find that I'm at a crossroads every morning; do I go to work or do I run away.

One day, I will run away. Even just for the day. Work is such a marathon that goes on, and on, and on.

I want both scenarios in equal measures, I suppose, and therein lies the problem.

Maybe it's time to knuckle down and go home.

Who else has experienced this?

Me, although the "home" thing for me is slightly different.

I don't want to go back home yet. I'm not ready.

Some people (myself included, thus far) are never ready. However, you have to weigh up other commitments, finances, horrible things like "future" and crap and maybe go "home" for a while. Actually, being at home isn't neccessarrily a bad thing. It gives you perspective, and makes you realise how lucky you were to travel, and how much more there is to see. Other people go home for a small break, fully intending to then re-hit the road fairly soon, yet realise that being home is actually what they are then ready for. This comes on suddenly and for no apparent reason, but they more or less never travel again, and are quite happy.

I want to see India. I don't want to go back home yet. I'm not ready.

Sounds good. Go home for Christmas as planned, then when the novelty value has worn off, and you've played your piano for a couple of months, drop me an email. I'll come to Ireland, collect you and we can head to India for a while. Sorted

Sounds great Gelli If I go home and do what I'm planning I won't be in a position to travel to India until 2010 at the earliest!

That's why I'm having my this mini dilemma. Not sure if I can go cold turkey on the travel for that length of time.

On the positive side though, I'll probably get to live in London for a year, which might be pretty cool.

I thought I'd temporarily got on top of my desire to see India. Then I watched a movie called NameSake the other night, and after seeing some scenes of the Taj Mahal, the damn bug starting biting me again. It didnt help that the copy of Wanderlust I'm reading at the moment has a great article on Ladakh, somewhere I really want to see.

Oh well, at least youre never without choices in life I suppose
