So sometime next year i plan on getting my stuff together and going to Thailand for as long as possible, Either by myself or with someone (friend/friends or a buddy met by these forums maybe?)
This is way to vague of a question to answer really. Essentially we'll be planning your whole trip for you. You've come to the right place though, there's tons of information on this website, but you have to browse through and find it.
Look through the forums and you will find budget questions answered countless times, every beach and town in the country described and recommended repeatedly, and all the advice on the ins and outs that you could ever need. Read all that stuff first, and browse the rest of the website for tons more information.
Google is also your friend. I would recommend starting by reading a bunch of forums, writing down every place name mentioned, then googling them to see what additional info you can find, and see if the place appeals to you.
For example, that "some full moon party?" that you mention - google "Full Moon Party Thailand" and the very first website you get will tell you everything you could possibly need to know about the party, which happens to be on Koh Phagnan.
Once you've done all that, you'll know tons about Thailand and you'll be able to ask more specific questions which we will all be glad to help you with. Happy planning.

How ever my real question is.. I would like to know the ins and outs, where to go/where not to go. price range ( I know the different in THB and GBP is huge!) where to visit ( I hear of some full moon party?) That sort of thing

For now start in Bangkok, spend a few days there. During that time you can also make arrangements for flights, train or bus rides to other places. Finish in Bangkok for one final night. Other than that your question is too vague. Use Google and you will get some info on other people who have traveled around Thailand. Research some of the older posts on this forum for more specific details.
You may WANT to stay in Thailand as long as possible but legally you can only stay as long as they allow you! Here is a link to Thai immigration rules. Check to see if you qualify for a free entry stamp in your passport or have to apply for a visa. How much time you can stay in Thailand or if you need a visa depends on where you are coming from and what passport you are using.
You have to figure out how much per day you can afford to spend after you pay for your plane tickets. Then when you ask for hotel recommendations mention how much per night you want to pay. Use a baht figure not cheap or economy, etc. Plan now how to carry your cash or how to have money available for your time in Thailand. Cash, travelers checks and debit cards will keep you in the money. For travelers checks some banks and credit unions will issue them without charge for their members. Only take the largest denominations. There is a 33 baht fee to cash a TC. Right now in Thailand there is a 150 baht surcharge to use an ATM so only take out the maximum to save paying lots of fees for cheap withdrawals. You have to notify your bank that you will be overseas or withdrawals may not be approved. Use cash to pay for cheap things like meals and items from street vendors to lessen the chance of credit card fraud.
One little secret about backpacking nowadays - most backpackers just carry a pack from airport terminal to taxi or bus and from there to hotel. When walking around the city most of the time you will have a smaller bag and leave the big bag in your room. Bring a bag that you can lock! This is no different than people who use suitcases but it sound sexier to say you went "backpacking" vs "suitcasing!" Some real treks may require you to carry some items for your comfort but most of the time you walk from tour bus to tourist spot back to tour bus with as little as possible to carry. At the airport there will be more suitcases coming around on the carousel than backpacks.
