Me and a friend are travelling from cairns to sydney in 7 weeks from beginning of april to mid may and just wondered if its best to book a campervan before we go, or is it better to book it when we get there because we may get a cheaper price?
Well, the good news is that the internet can make life easier for you. You can search for campervan renting sites and you can compare prices. You don't have to opt for renting it on the spot but you can compare it. It is quite difficult to judge a product or service through video or picture. If you can make a list of all the places where you can get a good deal then thats a great way to find the right campervan for you... Good luck with it guys
Hey me and girlfriend hired a campervan from travellers autobarn. Highly recommend. We had it for 4weeks - Sydney/Cairns. Friendly company, returned deposit fully. When we thought we had a waterleak which turned out to just be the wastage pipe they sent the aussie RAC equivelant out (NVRA or something). We spoke to a few Wicked van hirers who had battery problems as common fault, also on youtube there are videos of them not being highly rated. However they do have funky designs and may not all be bad.
We hired a chubby (2man bed in back with sink) to find for same price you can get 3 man hitop camper with more room and kitchenette style thing.
Think travellers autobarn do offers specifically for Cairns - Sydney travel as i expect more people do Sydney - Cairns and they need the vans returning therefore lowering prices to be more appealing. may be wrong but checkout travellers autobarn on facebook, give away free tanks of petrol occasionaly etc.
all the best
Cheers for that, will definitely look around and check out autobarn etc.
Is it definitely cheaper to book in advance then? I just thought companies may barter for our business when we are in Cairns, and may be able to get a cheaper price that way....if there is a large availability.
Thanks again!
Never used them but there seem to be a number of "Jucy" rentals buzzing around at the moment, you might want to check them out.
I used Jucy once, and had a rather bad experience with them. (My car was broken into, and the people in their phone center were completely unsympathetic and unhelpful, only interested in ascertaining that there was no damage to the parts of the car for which I had insurance.) I'd recommend looking for a different company to travel with.
I have been looking around, and found that compass campervans have been the cheapest so far and look quite good, but have found no reviews on them. Anyone had any good/bad experiences? Also like the look of travellers autobarn but have found no special offers relating to them, e.g free tank of fuel.
Is it quite common to get broken into then?
We did not get broken in to over 4weeks. we may have just been lucky but all the other campers we spoke to hadnt had a problem. i guess just park where you feel safe, take belongings with you and you should be fine.
travellers autobarn have free fuel vouchers floating round the hostels in sydney, on the desk at the wake up hostel. also on their facebook they have offers.
Don't be too fooled by price alone. Travellers Auto Barn would be my pick for service and support.
