At entry they are not bothered how long you are going to be in Thailand because if you overstay your allotted time (30 days), they will fine you 500 baht per day when you leave. In many trips I have never had them ask about onward travel. If asked, tell them you are going to book online with AirAsia at an internet cafe. It's a budget airline like Ryanair which gets you around Thailand and around that area of Asia cheaply.

Thanks for your reply - I presumed it would be fine to enter Thailand without proof of onward travel but read on here (travel guide section) that red tape could be an issue.. but I agree I'm sure it will be fine, just wanted a 2nd opinion.
Iam familiar with airasia too.
