Hi,
My boyfriend and I are looking at travelling to America for 4-5 weeks in September/October 2010. Our main part of the holiday being Disney in Florida =) We're going well with the planning of that...
We are also hoping to go to:
New York, LA, Las Vegas and San Francisco (not much I know but we'd rather do those cities well rather than do more cities and see less.
Just curious as to what anyone recommends to see and do and roughly how long to spend in each place? We are thinking of flying between each place to save time. Any reccommendations on which order to do our trip also??
I'd replace LA with Boston. 50 miles east of Disney is the Kennedy Space Center
Have you considered doing 2 trips, one to explore the east then sometime later come back and do the west coast?
Hi thier, are you flying or driving or taking a train between cities or taking the bus? I also recommend San Antonio, Texas as a way to see another section of America. The Alamo is thier and lots of cowboys and the river walk is tremendous and spending a few days thier is well worth the time. I also think LA is worth seeing its a definite part of the culture and also thier are a couple of hostels right in the heart of LA. I recommend Starline Tours as a great way to see LA. The LA Grand Tour is worth it and this includes transportation to and from
Adri
Thanks,
I have heard mixed reports about LA, but figure its worth seeing, if only once, I'll definately check out the tours you mentioned!. Hopefully we can head back in a few years and visit more places but for now we are limited with time (luckily, not with money). We're very keen on the obvious attractions but didn't know if you had any other tips on what to do in each city. We will most likely be flying between cities to save time, we are thinking a week in New York, maybe 3-4 days each in LA, San Francisco and Vegas and probably 8-10 in Florida for Disney etc....do you think this is about right?? Any tips on reasonable priced accomodation also??
Really appreciate any tips you've got

I think this sounds right time line wise. As far as places to see in Florida defently plan on 10 days for Disney world. Disney world is a big place with multiple theme parks and two water parks, thier is also other places to see in the area like Universal Studios and yes ive been to Walt Disney World and I loved it. Check Disneyworld on line is your best bet for tickets and packages.
As far as LA check out the Chinnese Mann theatre its right on Hollywood boulevard and also check out all the stars on the ground with stars names in them. You can also take a tour of chinnese Mann theatre and I did that and recommend it for sure. Check out Hollywood boulevard for some serious people watching. Catch a movie right down thier as well its worth it imo. Check out the La Brea Tar Pits which is worth it as well. If your in to the club scene check out Sunset strip and Rodeo drive to. I recommend and have taken the particular tours im going to list, Grand tour of LA and Movie Stars home. Its a great tour and covers a lot of LA and movie star homes. Ive seen a few stars on this tour and also had a lot of fun as well. Hollywood Trolly tour is a lot of fun and a great way to see the sites, LA City, Beach tour and Movie Star Homes (Honestly if your going to pick one tour this is the one I recommend as it has a great compilation of everything LA and the beaches and star homes). City tour by Night is good to, Hollywood Movie star expierence which includes a lot of fun stuff. Its important to note i did not do all these tours in one visit and have spread them out over the years and several visits. Personally thier are two I recommend above all others which are "LA City,Beach tour and Movie Star Homes" and "Hollywood Movie star Expierence". But if its one then i recommend the "LA City, Beach tour and Movie Star Homes" one. But these are just ideas of course.
As far as San Francisco I recommend Alcatraz and I recommend the Night package at least when I was thier the night tour included all the walks and audio and special tours and seeing Alcatraz at night is worth it. I loved the Alcatraz tour and also recommend a harbour tour which is great. Another tour out of San Fransisco is seeing the redwood forests thats worth it and thier are plenty of tours for all these places.
I was just in Vegas and thier is lots to do thier, I recommend abouut four days. Thier is lots of free things to do like checking out all the differnt casinos, a lot of casinos give out freeplay if you sign up and thier cards make great keepsakes and some include plastic chains that go around the neck. I recommend Paris Casino its just brillant inside. I also think Mandaley bay is great and I loved the Luxor as well. Also check out the tigers at MGM its awesome. I stood right underneathe them while they where in thier enclosure. Also check out Downtown thats the only place left for actual penny and nickel slots like in the old days of Vegas. Vegas is also differnt at night then it is during the day so make sure to check it out. Also Circus-Circus offers free circus acts and they are worth it imo and hey thier free hee . Thier is a bus that runs the strip. Its 3.00 for one way, 7.00 24 hours and 21.00 for 72 hours exactly. I recommend the 72 hour pass as its worth it. If you want to see any vegas shows check out the differnt places that sell 50 percent off shows that are availible the day of the show. They have that booth in all the differnt casinos. Also at the MGM attractions desk they over a great deal a choice of 3 out of 6 attractions for like 60.00 and its worth it. If you like CSI and I do and did it, Thier is the CSI attraction that was one of the three I chose. I also saw an exhibit on the titanic as well. Anyway it was worth it. Vegas goes 24/7 so the fun never stops. They do give out free drinks at most casinos if your actually gambling. I do penny and nickel slots mostly lol. Anyway hope this helps and its a small sample of what vegas has to offer.
Ok as far as NYC thier is lots to do, I recommend Elias Island and Just did a tour of it. The ferry ride is 12.00 round trip but Elias Island itself is free and well worth it. Its where many immegrants had to come through. Plan to spend a good portion of the day thier imo of course, also I recommend the meatpacker district its a cool area and check out Highland Park its a great Park up high that has a great view of the area and streets around and great plants as well. Also check out Chelsea area its a great naighborhood with great charecter imo, also check out Rockefeller centre its great and Maceys dept store, Times square is great also, The world Trade center is a sad place but I recommend it and thier is a Museum right thier about Ground zero, its powerful but it was worth it for me at least. Wall street is worth it and see it during the day when everyone is out and about, Trump towers is great to lol and also china town is great. I havent done any tours of NYC as im house sitting. As far as transportation NYC has Subways and a bus system and so on so its easy to get around.
As far as places to stay all the citys above have Hostels so its a matter of looking them up and im also going to suggest New Orleans, Louisianna its a great place and I highly recommend it for lots of reasons. So if you wanted to add that in its well worth it.
Good luck,
Adri
Wow!!! That is awesome, thank you so much for your advice, I will definately be taking that all on board.
We were thinking 8-10 days for Disney (I got a planning book for Christmas so I'm all on to that).
Alcatraz is a must for us, can't wait to go...a night tour would scare me but if it's available we would do it!
We're still just looking into it but I can't wait to look up all the things you have suggested!
Thanks again!

When i'm in NYC i usually stay in the Chelsea area of Manhattan in the Chelsea hotel where rates are usually below $150 per night,so much to see and do but Central park,China Town,Staten Island Ferry (its Free),Times Square are a few suggestions.
As for Disney? 3 days is about all i can take of that place,if that occurs to you rent a car and drive to Key West stopping at Penekamp state park on the way,
When going from LA to San Francisco rent a car and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, amazing scenery.
