I suppose if you stay at hostels and eat fast food, that $80. a day will be ok. Those cities are among the most expensive places in this country. If you went to smaller communities you would get more for the buck. In NYC for instance, most tourists want to be in Manhattan, but the other sections of the city (Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island) will be cheaper and more authentic/middleclass.
I live in one of the more affordable cities (Portland, Oregon in the Pacific NW), but even here it's not exactly cheap. The other day I spent $19. for lunch - even for me this was a real jolt!
I agree $80 is a little low. I live in Boston and it is typical to spend $60 on dinner out for two. New York is even more expensive. I would maybe budget a little more so you can do some of the fun activities available in all of the cities you’re hoping to visit.
