Hi ,I am a student in China. I want to help you if you have any question .

You know China is a large country. Many places worth while to visit. Beijing: Great wall, Forbidden city, Summer palace, Temple of Heaven, …. Xi'an: The Terracotta Warriors and Horses, City Wall, Big Wild Goose Pagoda,…. Shanghai: The Bund, Nanjing Road, Yuyuan Garden,…. Guilin: Li River Cruise,Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill……. It all depends on your travel time.
Chinese trains link all main cities and towns in China, and a safe way to travel, even for women travelling alone.Chinese train generally have four classes of seat & sleeper: deluxe soft sleeper, soft sleeper, hard sleeper, soft and hard seat. Chinese train number usually starts with a letter which refer to the category of train.D train refers to top quality and high speed train, Z train the second best, then T train,K train(regular train). You can buy ticket by yourself ,but do not forget to take your passport. In some busy seasons like national holidays, important festival, it is not easy to buy ticket. Because local people will go home or travel during these days. Train is still the main transportation way in China now. Higher fares are charged for better train. But it is comparatively lower than airline ticket.
Accommodation in China is convenient and fine.Different class of accommodation have different price. You can choose according to your budget.

you should choose the cities which you are interested in , because China is real big country,

beijing, shanghai ,xi'an, hongkong is the highlights in the China, if you have enough time, those four cities you must be visit.

let me know more about your idea to travel china info., and i can give you some help.

Usually, I recommend taking the train (hard sleeper class) around China, but domestic airfares have gotten a lot cheaper, and if you have limited time, or don't want to spend days on a train, that's the way to go. Whatever you do, avoid long-distance buses in China, if you can. They are uncomfortable, unreliable, and in some places, unsafe.

If you see only one city in China, it should be Beijing. It has the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, etc., and is close to the Great Wall (a must-see!). Shanghai and Hong Kong are also fascinating, but both are comparatively young (both date from the 19th Century).

You asked about train tickets: from Beijing to Xian (hard sleeper class) is about 280 yuan (US$40). You can travel from Beijing to Hong Kong for less than US$100. Super-cheap!
