i will be travelling to Australia on th 26th April and i have a few questions to help me on my travels.
1) How much money do you need- I currently have worked out that i will have between £6,000-£7,500 when i set out but i also have a WHV if i get stuck
An average daily budget for Australia is (AUD) $70/day. £6,000-£7,500 works out to $10,300-$12,900 (AUD), which over four months (to the end of August; you don't say if you're asking for the entire period, or only for the Australia time) would give you a budget of $84-$107/day. With a month in New Zealand included (based on the thread title I'm assuming you're only staying there for a month), you come down to $68-$85/day. Either way, this should be a very decent amount.
Obviously the $70/day average daily budget is making a whole lot of assumptions. That budget is good for staying in small dorm rooms in high quality hostels, buying supermarket food and cooking all your meals yourself at the hostels' kitchens, travelling on to a next destination by bus once a week, and doing a very occasional (twice a month or so) "activity" (e.g. bungy jumping, daytours, boat trips to the reef, diving, etc.) Some people find they can live a lot more frugally and barely spend $50/day. Others blow through $150/day without any problem, just by going out frequently and doing lots of activities, or even more if they go for private rooms in hostels and to restaurants for dinner. So don't feel too confident about having more than enough money, and keep a careful eye on your actual expenses.
2) What is the Job situation like in Aus
Don't know, but from reports here on the forum, I'd say "worse than two years ago, but not too bad".
3) I am planning to travel AUS by train, is that the most economical way or is their another.
Trains hardly go anywhere. (plus more regional variants like the Adelaide - Melbourne - Sydney ) are the more common choice; just as fast as the train (if perhaps not always as comfortable), and having a lot more flexibility with where and when you want to go. Greyhound also offers some passes for the entire stretch, which are a pretty good deal.
Also, internal flights in Australia are frequently very cost-effective to cover the huge distances. If you buy long enough in advance, or have luck with the special promotions, flights can get very cheap. Check the websites of and .
Sounds like a great trip you're in for! Jobs in Aussie can be easy to find in the big cities....as long as you're not fussy that is. If you're happy to hand out flyers, clean motel rooms, be kitchen hand etc, then you'd be able to find work. Of course, you can always go a little further inland and work on vineyards/orchards/in packhouses too. So if you do find money running low, employment should be able to be found
Like Sander, I'd also recommend buses. Not because they're particularly comfortable or fun but just because they go everywhere, and are usually relatively cheap.
Melbourne is a great city, I ended up staying there for 3 months! Brisbane, I'm not so keen on, but the Gold Coast is also a lot of fun. I can also give advise on Adelaide and the Sunshine Coast, so let me know if you have any specific questions about any of these places
Thanks for you help you have given me a few more ideas and help if required. I will only be spending 3 weeks in New Zealand North Island, but it should be good. Still not sure how i will travel as if i go by train it would be £300 all in for my time in Australia

A with Greyhound would cost you $425, or £242, allowing you to stop wherever you'd want in between, during a six months period. Or a would only cost $244, or £139, for the same deal during a 45-day period.
Just to give you some context to how good of a deal that £300 actually is...
Travelling by train in both Australia and New Zealand tend to be on the luxury side. I guess it's more for the nostalgic or romantic images associated with train travel more than anything else here down under... it has more "character" than flying! Flying often gives you the best bang for the buck especially if you book early, and is the fastest way to travel.
