I currently live in England but was Australian born and lived there for 5years i have checked and im eligible for an Aussie passport aswel as my British one but i was going to try and sort it when i go out there in 3 weeks as im out there for 3 months, is it going to be easy if i just take my old aussie passport and birth certificate or do i need extra documents? All help is very much appreciated!

Are you aware that you could also do that through the in London? Although with current weather conditions it may not be quick enough for you before you go (i.e. either getting to London or postal delays).
I did look at applying for it now but i would have to go to London for a medical and where i live its just way too far to go down especially with the weather as you mentioned. I did check with the Australian High Comission and i am eligible for a passport so would it be easier for me to just take all the documents i have to Australia with me and sort it out in Sydney? How long do passport applications take to process? Thanks again guys, really can't thank you enough for putting my worries at ease!
A medical? Not heard of that before for a passport, only for a visa.
I think a passport application takes about 2 weeks in Australia - you go to a Post Office (that accepts passport applications - and you may need to make an appointment beforehand) with all the documentation and form, the check your identity (including where someone else certifies it is actually you), hand back the docs (possibly after photocopying them) and take your money. The Post Office then send it to the Passport Office. You then receive the passport in the mail.
That's what I remember for my wife applying for a passport for our baby (I'm not Australian so haven't been through the process). As it is a first passport I don't think you can pay the extra for a faster service which would involve you picking it up from the Passport Office.
Also im only in Australia for 3months so i wont be living there or have a permanent address but i am staying with some family in sydney for a while so could i just use that address?

One thing you should check with the High Commission is if you need to get the passport before entering Australia (i.e. through the High Commission). Australia much prefers Australian citizens to use an Australian passport to leave & enter Australia.
When you leave Australia after 3 months you have the potential of either looking like you're overstaying in Australia on your British passport, or looking like you're still in Australia on your Australian passport. Australia has electronic borders where all entries & exits are recorded on the system, and either of these scenarios may have a potential to cause issues in the future.
So best to check on this one I think
