Yes, it is possible to do the the bus ride early in the morning to Paracas, hop on a boat to tour the Ballestas Islands and then take a bus to Nazca. Next day you will do the flight over the lines in the morning and take the bus back to Lima at noon. The ride from Lima to Paracas takes 4 hours, from there to Nazca, another 3 hours. So straight from Nazca to Lima will be 7 hours.
I highly recommend to buy your tickets once in Lima at the main bus station of Cruz del Sur (Av. Javier Prado) or you can make your hotel call to Cruz del Sur. They have a delivery service so they will bring your tickets to your hotel and pay at the hotel. The options on the web site are limited as you realized. Also they have special roundtrip tickets for the trip you want to do.

Once I've been to Nazca and done the flight over the lines I am wanting to carry on my trip to Arequipa rather than return to Lima. Do you (or anyone else) know about this journey is it possible to do a Nazca lines flight in the morning and then get a bus in the afternoon to Arequipa, the cruz del sur website only shows a bus travelling at night is there another company that has a bus leaving in the afternoon if not is the night bus safe to travel on?
