i came over to Aus in October but i did everything myself as its a lot cheaper that doing it through oz intro etc. I just went to the local bank, i chose Commonwealth, they are pretty good. just took my passport in and they opened up an account.
as for my money from Uk to Aus i just paid the transfer fee of 20 pounds (im with abbey national) its not that much if you think about it really and they just put all the money into my Commonwealth bank with little fuss. Its a lot easier to just do it in bulk and take the hit for a one off payment.
I did open a nationwide account but i never used it, i just put all my money into the Aus account

Hey there thank you so much for your reply, I actually Bank with Abbey myself. So for when you got to Oz did you just exchange some Aus Dollar for when you arrived then transfered all your money from Abbey to your Oz Account?
How much money did you save and take with you?
How long are you out there for?
