I'm planning, from my research (next August) to travel by minibus from Pai back to Chiang Mai and connect with a 'private public' minibus direct to Chiang Khong in the one day. I have read past posts (various websites) recomm. travel from Chiang Mai to Chaing Khong via Chaing Rai(overnight stay). But I prefer to stay an extra night in Pai (as I've visited Chaing Rai before). Any advice re first minibus ex Pai would be appreciated. I rely on booking a seat on a minibus from CM to CK when I'm there subject to when I can get back there.
