Phnom Pehn (or not?); Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos

Hi! We're planning a trip which combines Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Unfortunately time/duration is beginning to be an issue. I'd be interested in your opinion on what are the "must-see" places in above mentioned countries?

As you no doubt already know, Siem Riep contains the temples. When you see what is there, it becomes obvious there was a huge civilization there when they were built.

Phnom Penh is the capital. It is the largest city in Cambodia. There are, no doubt, some things to see there. But it is probably the least attractive place for visitors. Unless you like to see cities with a lot of poverty.

Not knowing much about your plans, or what you like. It is probably a good idea to leave it out.

Did Siem Reap and Phnom Penh late last year.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Phnom Penh but given the choice, Siem Reap and Angkor Wat would be my first pick.

Thanks. Just to clarify a bit. We'll have just a bit under 3 weeks for these three countries and the plan at the moment is to spend a bit over a week in Vietnam and include beach holiday (+Ho Chi Minh) to that part. So we would then have 8-9 days for Cambodia + Laos.

Any comments on what's "must" in Laos?

Siem Reap is amazing as are the temples around Angkor Wat. Alas, I didn't have nearly long enough (I'm planning on going back). Lovely people, very friendly. I went where many tourists probably don't go and I felt very small because I realised we don't know what poor is. These people are very poor, and yet they smile and seem happy.

The temples at Angkor are amazing and I'd recommend Phnom Penh too if you can fit it in. The killing fields and the Tuol Sleng genocide museum are worth visiting, and the city itself has some lovely cafes and restaurants.

At the moment I'm thinking of leaving Phnom Pehn out and just visting Siem Reap in Cambodia. What do you think?

Yeah, Phnom Pehn doesn't really have much to offer. It has a Russian market, but you can find similar one in Siem Reap.
Other place of interest is the Royal Palace, but you won't miss much if you don't go.
