Hello everyone. This will be my first time traveling to Europe. Here is a little about me. I'm 24 years old, from USA, love futbol, and to travel. Since this will be my first time traveling to Europe I want to stay around English speaking countries. I plan on spending 6 nights in England, and 6 nights in Ireland. I play on spending most of my time in the London area and hopefully attend a Liverpool FC game. When I go to Ireland I want to spend most of the time in Dublin.
hey Id suggest buying a tube pass. The tube is really expensive but very efficient. So you will use it. Alot. Im not sure what passes they have, but I would assume a week pass would be on offer. Atleast a 3 day pass.
Yes Train to Liverpool, try to buy it online before you go. Nationalexpress.com may get you started. Trains are super costly in the UK, so buy early. And If you are in Liverpool already take a ferry to Ireland. If you are in London, take a ryanair.com flight.
You could easily spend six days in London. However I found one day in Dublin to be sufficient. Lots to see in Ireland and with a car you can see much of it in six days. Ryanair does cheap flights to Dublin.
Your train ticket to Liverpool 'must' be bought in advance if you want to get there cheaply. Turning up at Euston on the day and asking for a single to Liverpool will cost you dear.
Websites like 'The Trainline' or 'Raileasy' will always have much cheaper tickets on offer that can be bought on-line. All the instructions on how to purchase a ticket are clearly stated.
There really aren't any cheap flights from London airports to John Lennon. The best option is with FlyBe and involves a change en-route. There are many options from London Airports to Manchester (a much bigger and busier airport than Liverpool), but then with the waiting around and having to go on to Liverpool afterwards which takes another couple of hours from the airport, you're much better off getting the train.
There are many flights from John Lennon to Dublin. Just look on any cheap flights website.
The prices vary from £3 one way (guess who?) to over £1,000 with Air France, going via Paris. Totally pointless when the flight time is only about 30 minutes on direct routes.
The cheapest fares to be had from the UK to Dublin on a ferry, are from Holyhead to Dun Loaghaire (pronounced Dun Learee). Holyhead is at the tip of North Wales and there are direct trains from London Euston that connect with the ferry. The port of Dun Loaghaire is a short (about 20 minutes) train ride from Dublin City Centre. It's possible through some agencies to book a combined train/ferry crossing ticket, that saves money on buying two seperate fares.
Dublin is one of Europe's most expensive cities. It can be done on the cheap, but takes a bit of planning in advance.
The public transport options in London are many. Personally, I'd just get a one day travel card and see how you get on with it. It might be that it's not for you - and if you've bought an extended one, it'll be money badly spent. They are really expensive compared to other European capital city travelcards, but still offer good value for money.
Which Liverpool match are you planning to watch? Ticket prices can vary quite a bit. And are you planning to see them play in London as well? One of the greatest Liverpool/London team matches to watch, albeit they're not one of the biggest, is against West Ham. The banter is so good.. Scousers versus Eastenders, always brings out good songs.
