How to Map new uploaded photos?

The new site look great, but i'm finding it hard to map my newly uploaded photos to a city and add the date the photo was taken.

Go to , select (checkbox) the photos you want to map, then click on the Edit button at the top or bottom of the list. On the edit page, you can map the first photo, and then copy the location to the rest on the list if they're all of the same location. So it's best that you do in groups if you have more than one location.

Actually the 'copy to other photos' isn't working yet, but should be tomorrow (top of the list now).

What might be the fastest way to do it is actually by going to the new 'mapping centre' I'll just call it for now, specifically to (there's a link at the top left to get there when you are on the regular trip view). Click the photos you want to map (you can do Shift + Click to select multiple in one go), click Edit Placement on the right hand side and type to map them all to that location. The new database is Google's, so you will find a LOT more places that we didn't use to have in there.

As an aside, it's no longer mandatory to map photos to a location.

A couple of items on this.

1. Would it be possible to put a check-box on the uploader to allow you to go automatically into the edit page for photos you just uploaded? I like to change the title, text, location and tags on all my photos.

2. I can't get the photo mapping to work on the new mapping system. It just spends endless time with the "searching for photos" title up, and never seems to resolve. Mapping trips looks fine, though.

This should already happen. There were a few days in there where it didn't, but that was fixed a little while back already.

Glad to hear the trips are working well for someone The photo mapping is being worked on heavily in that area. There was a definite problem for people with a lot of photos with the call just timing out. There is new code ready to be uploaded, but it needs to be tested more fully first. Don't want to solve one problem while creating another one!

On a side note, we're working hard on improving the photo editing / uploading process at the moment. Most likely going back to a more familiar text input like we had previously but with an added option to place the photo on a map as well. Some people will prefer that no doubt, since it allows you to drag the marker around to *exactly* where the photo was shot. So it's important to have both. We probably just went a bit too far thinking that it would be suitable for everyone.

I just pushed an update live for the mapping of photos (on the big map). It should now load your photos much more easily and not time out like it was. Let us know what you think. Hopefully it resolves those issues.

Yes, it does work now, as well as the uploader.

Now that I see the functionality of the photos on the mapping tool, I have another question.

Is there a way for an external user to see all my photos mapped? Specifically, if there are photos that were taken in places that weren't included as part of a trip. For example, my recent photos uploaded for Cambridge or Stratford-Upon-Avon (both UK). On the old maps, these would show up as black dots and you could click on to see the photos. Now, I can't figure out how someone would see photos that weren't part of the destinations included in a trip.

Thanks,
Greg

Hehe, Sam was just asking me last night how long it would be until someone asked where the view of all the photos on a map is?

This is definitely going to be created. Stay tuned for that one. For now, the photo mapping is used in your regular gallery, where there is a "Show on Map" link next to the photo. If you click on that, a small popup appears next to the photo with a map in it showing the location. This does not appear if you have only mapped the photo to a country.

I would have asked sooner, but I couldn't get my map working.

I'll keep an eye out.
