Photo not stored

Ok, first time I upload photos since the redesign. So a few things now:

Hmm, not really sure about that first one, I'll go upload a photo to see if that is happening to everyone...

The second is based on the computer you are using I think, and the language that is set to. So basically on a Dutch computer Google figures the likelihood of users typing in their local language is a lot bigger. What we save for each photo is the latitude and longitude, so it won't matter if you click on the dutch name. What actually happens is that we are using Flickr for the naming of the locations in most cases, so we then use the lat/long to find the location name on Flickr and assign it. In any case we save the country name like we always have, so your photo (just featured by me) shows up in the . It will also link directly to the Faroe Islands wiki in the information next to the photo on for example.

1. I ticked the 'save backup on TP' button, but when I view it in my gallery it says 'not stored' and thus I can not download it again.
How can I change this? Or should I do something differently.

Hmm, this works for me... could you try it again? If it still doesn't work, are any of the other checkboxes unchecked by any chance? Can't see why that would cause a problem... but maybe... one other theory I have is that the system was still saving the original over on Amazon's servers. That could take a little while if the photo is large I imagine. In that case I'd expect the download link to show now in any case; does it?

Thanks Sam.

Well, the link to the right country works fine indeed, shows up in the gallery and link to wiki. All perfect.
Had problem though when saving it accurately in the map and putting it on about the exact location. I tried this for the other photo (waterfalls on Kunoy) and put it on the location. That works, but it only saves it as Faroe Islands and not like Kunoy, Faroe Islands anymore.

Somehow, when filling in a name at the above left of the map doesn't work. It gives some examples, but when clicking on it, it doesn't do anything. So I just save the exact location and country.

Somehow, the featured one I would like to tag as Klaksvik, while now it is Vaag, Klaksvik. A bit 'vaag' for me....

Maybe this has to do with single file uploading or something, don't know.
Will check it at home (IE8), whereas at work is IE7.

Cheers
Michael.

Haven't kept up with fixing bugs, but still the photo uploaded in single file uploader is not stored.

Is there any chance the uploaded photos can be stored after all by you guys? Not a huge problem, but I like to have multiple storage (cd, internet, printed, book etc.) just in case.

Cheers
Mike.

The single file uploader is probably lower priority than some of the photo management bugs, but you do realize you can just upload one photo using the multiple photo uploader as well, right?! It works there, or at least it did when I tested this yesterday. That's the default one everyone is sent to to upload with.

The changing of the name on the photo is actually intentional. Basically we only store the lat/long, and then we do a reverse lookup on flickr to see what that spot corresponds to. We then use their name as the display name. This is not ideal in some cases, but works a lot better than using Google's names. And the HUGE benefit of this is that it makes it easier for us to group together photos taken in roughly the same location, without having to do very more complex searches using the lat/long.

The location works perfect for me Sam. Thanks.

I know about the single uploading in bulk. The thing is that the bulk uploading program that has to be installed is not allowed at work here. That's where I was uploading some in single file uploading system. I'll try it tomorrow at home, or maybe late this night.
Cheers
Mike.

Hmmm, that is a bummer. I guess you've also tried it recently? The java solution that it is is pretty common for this kind of uploading, but I can understand why they would have blocked it off
