lots of open spaces in travelguide with IE8?

Hi,
Are other users of IE8 having experiences with lots of open spaces in travelguide articles, seeing them only when editing articles by the way?
If not, you should check a few of the edits (click character number to do that). It seems that it creates a lot of open spaces automatically when you edit an article.

Check the latest China edit with just one sentence and link (promo), but having over 500 characters added because of all the open spaces it automatically creates.
This can not be IE specific because it shows that character number in others as well I hope.

That's weird; it kind of looks like Peter has pushed some kind of change to the history/compare area live that might be causing this. Clearly Windows or IE is converting spaces to paragraphs in some form, which then automatically adds them when you save them afterwards.

As to your question about 'why IE', it's sad to say it's because it doesn't follow (m)any of the standards that other browsers do. That should be improving soon with IE9, and it was already better with IE8, but 7 and earlier are really a disaster from a developer's point of view. I don't think this error is just down to IE though; seems more like a Windows thing and a new feature which was just rolled out today or yesterday clashing.

Thanks for the explanation.
Maybe it had something to do with that % contribution which was mixed up but fixed by Peter now? That was a few days back.
Like you said: always find new things, but I am kinda perfectionist regarding some things

I don't think it's either Windows or IE that's causing this problem. I tested with Firefox and it's inserting new lines too, even in the preview. This means IE is out of the question here. Moving on to Windows, if it is causing it, then all forum posts will also have extra line-breaks too, but we don't see that. Anyway, I couldn't fathom why Windows or IE would suddenly act against TP when it worked perfectly fine before this. I suspect something in the background of wiki is wrongly encoding the line-breaks and caused duplication.

That would confirm my suspicion that it's a Windows thing The forum and wiki don't use identical coding, and as I said in my last post, it only just started happening yesterday in the wiki, so I suspect something went live there to improve one thing, then caused this in addition. It's obviously an encoding issue of some sort, but definitely doesn't happen on a mac. I'll let Peter know in case he hasn't already seen this thread!

Just so it's clear - this is the same problem that was behind the Almeria province bug: http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=73824#Post7

It's fixed now
