Does anyone have any suggestions for traveling from Kerala to Mumbai? I was thinking about the train. I would certainly like to see the land as I head towards Mumbai.
I travelled this route a few years ago and took the train up the West coast. Trains in India are a great way to travel and saves on paying for accommodation for a night too. You'll meet some locals if you want to or not and see the country side go past from your window of the train. I really loved this part of my trip.
Between Kerela and Mumbai there are plenty of little places you should stop at. I went from Trivandum to Kochin where we took a bus to see a snake boat race in Allapuza which was amazing. Aslo stopped in Goa on the way up which is worth a week or so. We hired a single room for a week where we dumped our backpacks, packed a little rucksack and hired some mopeds to drive up and down the coast staying in different places. A great way to explore!
Is there any particular train line you took? It seems like there are several choices based on my search of the Indian Railway.
